ABOUT BANGLADESH
BANGLADESH (বাংলাদেশ) is a small country in the region of South-Asia. It is officially called People's Republic of Bangladesh. It is bordered by INDIA by all sides except the small south-east border is shared with MYANMAR. In the south, there is Bay of Bengal (বঙ্গপসাগর). Official language is Bengali (বাংলা). Bangladesh has a long history of sovereignty.
History:
Bangladesh was the part of undivided Bengal. From the 12th Century Islam is introduced in Bengal by Muslim Conquerors and rulers as well as muslim Sufi's.
In 15th Century, a group of British Merchants called British East-India Company ruled over the Bengal. In 1857, the power is transferred to the British Royal Crown through the bloody rebellion (known as সিপাহি বিদ্রোহ). In between 1905 and 1911, the proposal is made to divide bengal in two regions. This proposal came into formation in 1947, dividing Bengal in two major regions-one is India (majority Hindus) with Kolkata as Capital and another is East Bengal (majority Muslim. Later is known as East Pakistan) with Dhaka as Capital joined with Pakistan itself. Pakistan Government was massively controlled by the West Pakistan. West Pakistan tried their soul best to dominate and to oppress the people of East Pakistan. Pakistan leader Muhammad Ali Zinnah along with some other political leaders announced informally Urdu (উর্দু) as official language of Pakistan including the East Pakistan (where majorities are Bengali Speaking people). The fire of rebellion spread like a wild fire through-out the East Pakistan and as a result some civilian people died in the possession for the language movement while Pakistan Police open fired on the crowd. After the death of civilian people in 1952, people of East Pakistan became more aggressive and they came up breaking Section-144. Pakistan Government failed to control the anger of the people resulting announce Bengali (বাংলা) as a official language of East-Pakistan. Along the trail of oppressors, tension grew in between Pakistan. late night at 25 March,1971, Pakistan Military Force suddenly started Operation Searchlight and killed thousands of peace loving Bengali Native people. This operation was led by General Yahya, former Chief of Army Staff, Pakistan Army. According to the New York Times, 10000 people were killed on that night. Sydney Herald said, around 35,000 people were killed. In Dhaka, 5,000-7,000 people were killed. That was the biggest military assault on East Pakistan in the history of Bengal. This led to a 9 Month lasting War fought by General people of all classes of the society including students, juveniles, women. Along, Police men, specially trained Guerillas also fought against Pakistan. Bangladesh was divided into 11 Sectors centrally controlled by the Chief of Sector Commander General M.A.G Osmany. After some time, Indian Army joined as Friendly Force (Mitro Banhini) along with Mukti Banhini led by Bangladesh. 16 December, 1971 Pakistan Army surrendered and Pakistan Government handed over the power to Bangladesh. Indian Armed Forces taken over 90,000 war prisoners. Bangladesh formed as a new independent sovereign country.
